Our Story

Michael and Amanda Abernathy are the owners and operators of Abernathy K9. Michael’s love for dogs started when he was a young boy and has only grown through the years. When Michael was 22, he snuck a dog into his parents’ home, and this became the pivotal moment for him jumping into the world of dog training. Bentley, the dog who found a home with Michael and his family, is pictured in the above photo in the middle. Michael began studying dog training through meeting local trainers, researching trainers through national media outlets, and putting these lessons to work with Bentley. This ultimately developed into a new passion that would eventually lead Michael to starting Abernathy K9.

Over the last few years, Michael was able to learn from the models used by Isaiah Baker, former owner of Did It For My Dogs Canine Social Club, while also continuing to develop his own unique style of dog training. This passion lead to Abernathy K9 becoming official in the fall of 2019 when Michael started taking on his first clients. Since then, he has worked with over 60 dogs through his various training programs! Amanda stays busy doing the behind the scenes work including the administrative tasks and managing Abernathy K9’s social media outlets. Both Michael and Amanda are grateful for the opportunity to be part of your family’s journey to having a great relationship with your dog!
